Pokemon Card Grading

AI-Powered Pokemon Card Grading Analysis

Know exactly what grade your Pokemon card will receive before you spend $20-$150 on grading fees. GradingMetric's AI analyzes centering, corners, edges, and surface quality across PSA, BGS, CGC, and SGC, giving you a clear submit or hold recommendation for every card in your collection.

Why Grade Your Pokemon Cards?

Professional grading can multiply your Pokemon card's value significantly, but only if you grade the right cards.

5x-100x Value Increase

A Pokemon card worth $50 raw can sell for $250-$5,000+ in PSA 10 depending on the card. Vintage Base Set holos and modern chase cards see the biggest value jumps in Gem Mint condition.

Authentication

With counterfeit Pokemon cards flooding the market, especially for vintage and high-value cards, professional grading confirms authenticity and gives buyers confidence in their purchase.

Long-Term Protection

The sealed slab protects your Pokemon card from handling damage, UV exposure, humidity, and other environmental factors. Your card stays in the exact condition it was graded, preserving its value.

Which Pokemon Cards Are Worth Grading?

Vintage WOTC-Era Holographic Rares

1st Edition Base Set, Shadowless, Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket, Gym Heroes, Gym Challenge, and Neo series holos. These cards carry massive graded premiums, especially in PSA 9 and 10. Even mid-grade copies of 1st Edition Base Set holos are worth grading for authentication value.

Modern Special Art Rares & Illustration Rares

Chase cards from Scarlet and Violet sets like 151, Obsidian Flames, Paldean Fates, and Temporal Forces. Full art trainers, special art rares, and illustration rares with strong collector demand can see 3x-10x value increases in PSA 10.

Japanese Exclusive Cards

Japanese Pokemon cards often have superior print quality and centering. Japanese promos, tournament prizes, and exclusive set cards are increasingly sought after by global collectors, making them excellent grading candidates.

Cards Worth $30+ Raw in Excellent Condition

As a general rule, Pokemon cards worth $30 or more in raw near-mint condition are worth considering for grading if you believe the card has PSA 9 or 10 potential. The higher the raw value, the more the grading premium justifies the submission cost.

Pokemon Card Grading Challenges

Pokemon cards have unique characteristics that make grading both challenging and rewarding. Understanding these issues helps you grade smarter.

Centering Issues

English Pokemon cards are notorious for inconsistent centering. Many print runs produce cards that are off-center by default, making well-centered copies scarce and more valuable. Always check both front and back centering before submitting.

Holo Surface Scratches

Holographic Pokemon cards are especially vulnerable to surface scratches on the reflective foil. These scratches may be invisible in normal light but become obvious under direct lighting. Always perform the light test before submitting.

Print Lines

Many Pokemon sets, particularly older WOTC prints, have print lines that run across the holographic surface. These are factory defects that count against the grade. Some cards simply cannot achieve PSA 10 because of print quality issues.

Whitening on Edges

Pokemon cards with dark borders show edge whitening very prominently. Even cards straight from a pack can have edge whitening from the packaging process. This is one of the most common reasons Pokemon cards miss top grades.
