PSA Card Grading

PSA Card Grading 2026: Fees, Turnaround, Grade Scale & PSA 10 Odds

The complete guide to Professional Sports Authenticator — the dominant trading card grading service. Fees from $20, 1-10 scale, ~10% PSA 10 rate. Predict your PSA grade with AI before paying.

PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) is the largest third- party trading card grading service in the world. PSA grades cards on a 1-to-10 whole-point scale based on centering, corners, edges and surface, charges $20-$300+ per card across five service tiers (Value, Economy, Regular, Express, Vintage), and returns graded cards in 2-65 business days depending on the tier. PSA 10 (Gem Mint) is awarded to roughly 10% of submissions and commands the highest resale premium across nearly every modern card category. GradingMetric's AI predicts your PSA grade from a single card photo before you pay submission fees.

What Is PSA Grading?

PSA is the most established and widely-used trading card grading service. PSA-graded cards typically resell for more than equivalent grades from other services due to PSA's dominant market position.

Whole-Point Scale (1-10)

PSA uses whole-point grades (1, 2, 3, … 10) with one half-point exception (PSA 1.5). No subgrades. Each card gets a single overall grade based on the weakest of four condition axes — but with significant tolerance compared to BGS or ACE.

Looser Centering (55/45 PSA 10)

PSA 10 accepts up to 55/45 front centering and 75/25 back. More forgiving than ACE (50/50 ±2%) or BGS Black Label (50/50). For centering-marginal cards, PSA is the higher-grade odds.

Highest Resale Premium

For modern cards (sports rookies, Pokemon, MTG), PSA 10 commands 15-30% higher resale than the equivalent ACE 10, BGS 9.5 or CGC 9.5. The trade-off: PSA fees are 2-5× higher than ACE.

Vintage Specialty Tier

PSA Vintage tier ($300+) is a separate process for pre-1972 cards, with vintage-trained graders. Cards graded Vintage carry an 'Authentic' tag noting the vintage assessment.
